Career Suicide

Immortals just lost to North pretty much 0-1 after having to forfeit the first map after failing to arrive in time for the scheduled start of the DreamHack ASTRO Open finals. This comes off as a shock, as Immortals are known for their heart for the game and bringing a fiery temperament with them, a temperament that may have caused a few peripherals to be destroyed in times of defeat.

Only two of the expected five showed up in time, the two being boltz and steel. The other three no-showed the expected time of arrival and missed the 15-minutes-time-limit after which, according to DH rulings, they had to forfeit the first map. They showed up in time to play the second map, starting with a 0-1 disadvantage, which caused them to only lose one map to go 0-2 and leave the final in the most inappropriate way ever.

Speculations ran wild, as to which caused this absence.

And instead of taking it to the chin to let management and the coach deal with this mess, kNgV- worsened the situation by crossing a line. FNS, a player of  CLG, a team which Immortals had to beat in order to enter the finals, joked about how they not just lost but lost to a team that was partly hungover.

kNgV- did not take this remark kindly and replied with a death-threat.

kNgV- did not just not stay silent to let other people, people who have experience with this, deal with the situation, but he took a joke so hard that he had to leave a death threat on Twitter, for all the world to see, which, by the way, includes team managers, other players, sponsors and fans.

And instead of just apologizing, kNgV- went even further to tweet a statement which, according to Bing, ends with “FNS has to prove it!”. Instead of leaving it be, he has to one-up himself even once more.

He started out as unprofessional and ended with a potential threat to a human life. I do not believe that kNgV- ever intended to hurt FNS, but I am sure that sponsors will not take kindly to this behaviour. It is not the stupidity that baffles me, but the ignorance. The ignorance of the consequences.

This puts Noah, the beloved head of the Immortals Organisation, in front of a dilemma: Look like a total tool who does not know how to control his players’ tempers and keep kNgV- OR kick kNgV- to keep sponsors and the respect of fans – who, by the way, are the driving force between a teams financial success.

The consequences do not stop there – people may be less likely to work together with kNgV- in every form because they will be afraid of the potential consequences they and their brand has to face if he has another temper tantrum on Twitter.

We witnessed career suicide of a young talent with a potentially bright future, all because he felt like he had to threaten another player over a joke.
